The Cutting Edge is a full service tool sharpening shop. They specialize in the sharpening of saw blades and cutting tools, of high-speed steel and carbide, for the metalworking and woodworking industries in Alaska's Interior. They also sharpen surgical and dental instruments for area hospitals, clinics, and dental offices, and shears and clipper blades for beauticians and pet groomers. Most any size band saw blade can be made to order and delivered within 2 business days. Capabilities also include the design and manufacture of custom cutters and saw blades for log home builders and wood workers. Most frequently requested are the 6, 8, 10, and 12-inch carbide toothed hole saws for notching turned house logs and thin kerfed carbide circular saw blades. Angel & Mark Knapp, owners and operators of The Cutting Edge, know the material cutting challenges of the industries. Mark has over 20 years of experience in the metal fabrication and construction fields. After completing vocational technical training in tool and die making in Virginia Beach, VA, Mark moved to Minnesota where he was employed as a mold maker at a plastic injection mold plant in Minneapolis. In 1984, he moved to Fairbanks and worked at area machine shops until 1994, when he was hired as project supervisor for the Riverboat Discovery where he completed the 2-year renovation of Discovery II in 1999.

In October 2001, Mark and Angel opened the doors of The Cutting Edge and have since expanded the shop to its present location at 1971 Fox Avenue next to Florcraft. They now carry an extensive inventory of band saw and circular saw blades, router bits and shaper cutters at Lower-48 prices. Their shop hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Saturdays. Checks, Visa, MasterCard and commercial accounts are accepted.
